Dear Thomas,
Happy Valentine's Day!
Do you remember that feeling when you meet someone who makes your heart race?
I'll never forget the first time I saw Richard. He was playing racquetball. I think I fell in love with him right then.
For about a year, I had a terrible crush on Richard.
He's four years older than me and was not like anyone I'd ever dated. He'd come to pick me up and sit with my mother. She was sick, dying of cancer.
When we got in the car, we'd listen to music. He loved Kenny Loggins, a popular folk singer. He'd put his arm up on the back of my seat while driving and sing "Celebrate me Home."
Soon after, my mother died, I went away to college and we went our separate ways, married other people. I had a baby girl, Megan. Life went on. When we reconnected, the timing was crazy. I thought, "How can I jump from one marriage into another?"
But I realized I always loved him and I wanted a life with him no matter where it took me and my child.
Stay warm. Wish you could come and sit by the fire. Talk about making my heart race!
Until next time, your house’s faithful caretaker,
Marilee
